The reported pursuit of Mason Greenwood is not merely a transfer decision — it is a test of AS Roma's identity.
For years, AS Roma, through Roma Cares and initiatives such as “Un Rosso alla Violenza” (“A Red Card to Violence”) in partnership with WeWorld, has presented itself as a club that stands for respect, dignity, integrity, and opposition to violence against women. These initiatives are not peripheral to the club's identity; they are among the clearest expressions of AS Roma's values.
Signing Mason Greenwood would fundamentally undermine that commitment.
Regardless of differing views on the legal proceedings, Greenwood remains publicly associated with allegations of domestic abuse. For many supporters, survivors of abuse, and advocates, his arrival would send a devastating message: that footballing ability can outweigh the principles the club has publicly championed.
What message would this send to every woman who has looked to Roma Cares and WeWorld as genuine advocates against violence?
What message would it send to every volunteer, employee, and partner who has dedicated time to these initiatives?
This is not simply a moral question. It is a question of credibility.
Manchester United, after conducting its own internal review, ultimately decided not to reintegrate Greenwood into its first team. If one of the world's largest clubs concluded that the wider consequences outweighed the sporting benefits, why should AS Roma choose to inherit those consequences and risk its own standing?
The cost would extend far beyond the dressing room. It would affect the club's reputation, the credibility of Roma Cares, the integrity of its partnership with WeWorld, the confidence of supporters, and the trust of current and future commercial partners — many of whom have built their own brands on principles of inclusion, responsibility, and respect.
The Friedkin Group states as one of its core values:
“We demonstrate integrity in everything we do. We measure our actions not only by what is legal, but also by the highest standards of ethics that ensure fair and honorable actions.”
This decision presents an opportunity to prove that those words are more than a corporate statement.
AS Roma has earned worldwide respect because it has represented something greater than football. That reputation should not be compromised for any player, regardless of talent.
This is bigger than a transfer. It is about the kind of institution AS Roma chooses to be — and whether its actions will reflect the values championed by Roma Cares, embodied through its partnership with WeWorld, and promised by The Friedkin Group itself.
Integrity cannot be selective.

The Friedkin Group afferma tra i propri valori:
